Zoey has really taken to blogging. She asked me to help her create a blog just for and about her and other canines. She says she wants to spotlight dogs like her. So there is no time like the present to start the New Year off with www.Zoeytherescue.blogspot.com

Zoey wants to remind you that there are tons of animals that need a FUREVER home. Also shelters need donations not only monetary but many other items too. She says to take in consideration that there are lots of humans who donate to wonderful, much-needed causes to help humans but there is not enough humans that donate to help save animals.

Best in Show is… Sky!

The 138th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show went down last night at Madison Square Garden in NYC.

After all was said and done, which pooch came out on top?? The winner of the prestigious Best in Show is… Sky! The wire fox terrier!! Sky beat out an Irish water spaniel, a cardigan Welsh corgi, a Portuguese water dog, a bloodhound, a miniature pinscher and a standard poodle! In all, there were 2,845 doggies competing for the top prize, but Sky beat them all. What's amazing about Sky is that she's already won 128 best in show titles during her career! A wire fox terrier has won a whopping FOURTEEN times, a feat done by no other breed! We'd have picked her to win based solely off the extreme amounts of cuteness blasting out of this pretty pooch!

And, even more heartwarming is that one of the contestants in the inaugural competition was Emma, a mixed-breed dog who was rescued by her owner Christy Wrede, just before being put down at a kill shelter! WOW! As we mentioned, this was the first time the Westminster Dog Show included mixed breeds! Aw!

Congrats on the big win, Sky!!

Sky is America’s top dog

The 5-year-old female — whose full name is “GCh. AfterAll Painting the Sky” — beat a field that included a standard poodle, a Portuguese water dog and a bloodhound. This was a record 14th time that a wire fox terrier has won at the nation’s top dog show.

“They were bred to look for trouble so they’re always on their toes out there,” Westminster Kennel Club Director of Communications and longtime WKC Dog Show TV co-host David Frei said of the terrier breed. “It’s their world and we’re just living in it and I think that gives them a little extra edge in the show ring.”

Frei appeared on “Good Morning America” today along with Sky, who proved to be frisky and friendly during her morning show appearance. “She’s got this little extra something, as you can see,” Frei said.Sky has won 129 best in show awards and was ranked as the country’s No. 1 show dog last year. “This is just another day at the office for her,” said Frei.

Sky topped the 2,845 dogs entered in the show. They were eligible in 190 breeds and varieties. The standard poodle named Ally was chosen as the runner-up.

“They couldn’t have this kind of success if they didn’t love it,” Frei said of the dogs who competed.

Sky’s owners are Victor Malzoni Jr. and Torie Steele, and her handlers are Gabriel and Ivonne Rangel. An overjoyed Gabriel Rangel stood with Sky following Tuesday’s title.“I’m so proud of her. … There’s no words to describe this,” he told a reporter with USA Network, which broadcast the show.

Beyond the dog show circuit, Sky knows how to have fun, too. In July, she was photographed wearing a shaggy wig and tinted glasses.

She even has a Twitter account — @Skywirefox.

According to the Press-Enterprise of Riverside, Calif., Sky’s owners plan to retire her following Tuesday’s title.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

PS... I am forever top dog in my house!!!!!

Woof, woof, till later,

Zoey
