Zoey has really taken to blogging. She asked me to help her create a blog just for and about her and other canines. She says she wants to spotlight dogs like her. So there is no time like the present to start the New Year off with www.Zoeytherescue.blogspot.com

Zoey wants to remind you that there are tons of animals that need a FUREVER home. Also shelters need donations not only monetary but many other items too. She says to take in consideration that there are lots of humans who donate to wonderful, much-needed causes to help humans but there is not enough humans that donate to help save animals.

The most Famous Pit Bull

Here are some things you might not know about Petey from "The Our gang" aka "Little Rascals" short films.

There were actually several dogs that played Petey in the series. Pal The Wonder Dog was the first. Pal did several movies in the 1920's including the silent Buster Brown film and series. His character was named Tige in the series. He went on as we know to become a superstar as Petey in The Little Rascals. The show was originally called Our Gang. Producer Hal Roach took over the series and changed the name to The Little Rascals that's when he brought Pal on board to portray Petey in 1922. Petey was an instant sensation, and he became the most famous and popular American Pit Bull Terrier in history. Petey had the roll until a horrible man took his life. The man is said to have had a grudge against Pal's owner Harry Lucenay. He poisoned Pal and he tragically died in 1930.
After Pals tragic death his son took over the roll as Petey. The dog's real name was "Lucenay's Peter". They were both APBT's from the famous Colby bloodline. What's also really interesting is that the ring around Petey's eye was drawn using eyeliner that was drawn by the studio's make up artist Max Factor founder of the Max Factor make up company. If you look at the photos below you can tell the difference between the dogs easily because Pal had the ring around his right eye and Peter had the ring around his left eye. The reason they put the ring around the left eye on Peter is he had dark fur around his right eye which you can see in the photo. Peter kept the roll of Petey until 1932 when Harry was fired because he was said to have a dispute with the studio and producer. After Peter left they used several different dogs in the roll until the series ended in 1944.
Another fact people might not know is that Peter was the first dog to have dual registry as an American Pit Bull Terrier in the UKC and as a Staffordshire Terrier (now American Staffordshire Terrier) in the AKC. After Harry and Peter left the show, they lived together until peters death in 1946. He lived a long and happy life.
So there you have the story of the most popular pit bull of all time,
